The Talmud teaches, "But for the warm breath generated by small children learning in the house of their Schoolmaster, the world could not exist." (Talmud, Shabbat 119:)

Our children are not only precious to us; they are the foundation of our future. Like the Talmud, we at Shaare Torah believe that our children are the most important thing there is.  Our school is "reinventing Jewish congregational education."  We have spent this past year reimaging the role of education in our community and how our school can best address the needs of our families while creating a rich, indepth, experiential program that goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom program.

Registration for Adventures in Jewish Learning for Grades K-7      Registration for 5774 (2013-2014) introduces Shaare Torah’s new Adventures in Jewish Learning for Grades K-7.  This is an innovative organizing concept in Jewish study.   All activities, for parents and children are organized by grade, on our Adventures in Jewish Learning Menu which incorporates an array of Jewish learning connections for our families:

  1. Continuation of our fabulous mid-week Hebrew and elective program for children
  2. Fewer in-class only Sunday experiences and expansion of Sunday family experiences
  3. New, Social Action Field Trips for all grades, as children leave the classroom and do direct service learning in our community
  4. Shabbat family experiences on Friday evening, Shabbat morning and Havdallah
  5. Our amazing grade 5 retreat
  6. Incorporation of all youth group activities

Please take a few minutes to look over the new Adventures in Jewish Learning Menu to explore the experiences we have designed for our families in the new year.

Mid-Week Hebrew and Electives Program Continues For the Second Year     We are pleased that our mid-week Hebrew and Electives Program was so successful in its pilot year, 5773 (2012-2013).  We will continue to offer this innovative program of individualized Hebrew learning in groups of no larger than 5.  Most of our Hebrew groups were 2 students and we had many students one-on-one with our talented teen teachers.  Allowing students to choose their own hands-on electives each trimester was a welcome change that will be continued. Our mid-week program has created the following:

  1. An expanded week so that parents can choose from three different days (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) to facilitate easy access to school
  2. An expanded time frame from 3:15-6:30 to allow working parents and our near-by middle school students to take advantage of more convenient time offerings
  3. A 45 minute intensive Hebrew study session in small groups or one-on-one to help students focus on intensive prayer skills study
  4. A 45 minute hands-on arts focused workshop elective offered for 9-10 weeks where children can choose their favorite topic to explore
  5. A community group time for all students to share a topic together each day
  6. A cadre of talented teen teachers who worked hard throughout the year to create rich learning experiences for their Hebrew students.

Our anecdotal information reports that our students and families love this new program.  Children are coming home excited about learning mid-week. Join us at Shaare Torah as we expand horizons, connect to Jewish traditions and enjoy learning together in shared Jewish experiences.  Join us in 21st Century Adventures in Jewish Learning.
