An evening dedicated to the cherished memory of Guy Illouz z”l, beloved friend of Abraham Belilty.
This year’s observances of Yom HaZikaron (Israel Remembrance Day) and Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel Independance Day) will be with heavy hearts. Since Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, nearly 2,000 Israeli civilians and soldiers have been killed and there are still 132 hostages being held in Gaza. In addition, thousands of civilians in Gaza have been killed, antisemitic attacks around the world and at home have spiked to degrees unseen in nearly 100 years, and college campuses have become hotbeds of violent rhetoric and actions against the Jewish community. We have also seen tremendous resilience, acts of compassion, and strengthening of communal bonds both in Israel and in the Jewish community in America.
Just as Selichot prepares us for the High Holidays, we invite you to join us on Saturday, May 11 for an evening of singing, stories, and spiritual preparation for the “Israeli Yamim” featuring Yoel Sykes, a spiritual facilitator who co-creates intentional community through music and prayer. You may recognize Yoel through the liturgical melodies he has composed as part of the Nava Tehila leadership team, including Oseh Shalom, Halleluyah (Psalm 148) and Shiviti.
Tikvat Israel and Shaare Torah are pleased to offer this program to the public free of charge due to a generous “Swords of Iron” grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. Donations to help offset additional costs are welcome.
