High Holidays 5785

Greetings From Our High Holiday Co-Chairs

Dear Shaare Torah Congregation,

As we approach the High Holidays this year, we want to extend a heartfelt welcome to each of you. This time of year holds a special place in our hearts as we gather to reflect, renew, and reconnect with our traditions, our community, and ourselves.

This year, our theme is “Hope and Resilience.” We personally have held these feelings close to our hearts, often holding our breath as our world can feel uncertain and challenging, but yet these qualities are more important than ever. Hope allows us to envision a better future, while resilience gives us the strength to navigate life’s obstacles with courage and grace. When we put them together, they empower us to move forward, individually and collectively, with determination, passion, and strength.

To many of us, this year is different from years past, but many truths still hold true. From the ancient stories of our ancestors to the daily challenges we face in our modern lives, we are reminded of these ideas. Hope and resilience are not just concepts, but lived experiences that sustain us and bring us together. We know they have done that for us and our families.

Whether you are a “regular” on Shabbat, holidays, part of our social or education programs or you are returning to Shaare Torah after some time, or joining us for the first time, we want you to know that you are an essential part of this community, and your presence enriches our collective experience.

Chairing the high holidays is a meaningful, engaging and exciting (sometimes stressful) adventure. This year, together, we will celebrate, reflect, and renew our commitment to living lives of purpose, kindness, and tradition. We are faced with opportunities to come together as a community with hearts full of hope and spirits fortified by resilience.

May the High Holidays be a time of profound spiritual growth and connection for you and your loved ones. We look forward to sharing these moments with you.

Shanah Tovah U’Metukah—wishing you a sweet and blessed New Year.

With warmest regards,

Jennifer Schnur and Connie Liss
