About the Shaare Torah Jewish Culture Chavurah

We are culture lovers who are exploring together our understanding of Jewish culture and making new friends in the process. We bring guest speakers to our building and take day trips in the DC/MD area, with some events in the evening and some during the day. The events for the 2024-25 year reflect the diversity of our interests:

2024-25 Events*

September 15, 2024: Enjoy a Delicious Taste of Inclusion: An Afternoon with Sunflower Bakery. Join us to taste the results of innovative and inclusive ideas.

November 10, 2024: Who Are the Crypto-Jews? A fascinating look into the world of our hidden Jewish ancestors.

December 6, 2024: Kabbalat Shabbat Service and Deli Dinner. A spiritual and social way to celebrate Shabbat with new and old friends.

February 9, 2025: Israeli Movie and Light Dinner. Israeli films have garnered serious acclaim locally and internationally, providing a window into Israeli life, culture and communities often left out of the mainstream. (Film to be determined)

March 9, 2025: Pre-Passover Wine Tasting with kosher Israeli wine expert Steve Kerbel, who has visited over 100 of Israel’s wineries.

April (Date TBD): The Challah Prince! (synagogue-wide event)

May 14, 2025: Trip to Baltimore Museum with docent tour of Cone Sisters exhibit

June (Date TBD): End of year BBQ-Picnic
