We will work on the base assumption that diversity and inclusion make our community better and stronger. We want to give a big shout out to Beri Kravitz who has been leading the equity task force to ensure that the ST website has inclusive language (a very big project!). Some of us have also served on that task force which will have its final meeting tonight. The Inclusion Committee will pick up on that work along with a broader agenda of inclusivity in congregational life. For now, we have identified the following priority inclusion areas:
Race and ethnicity
Of course we want your input too! We want to ensure that we stay focused and there are other ST committees that work on welcoming intermarried families, social change (specifically regarding anti-racism), and combating antisemitism. Ours will be a committee that focuses internally on how we can be more inclusive/welcoming to our members, potential members, and guests. We won’t deal with political issues or external projects. However, we have much to glean from other ST committees and expect there to be a high degree of collaboration since inclusion is an area that impacts every aspect of our wonderful Shaare Torah community.
